Olivier de Sagazan, the body of art resides in one
This
incredible artist was born in 1959 in Brazzaville currently lives in France,
began with this type of performance in 2001 and thus continued for more than 20
years.
The work of
Olivier de Sagazan arises from a process of transfiguration in which the artist
evokes his own fears and interpretations of mortality to create in himself a
living canvas.
The method he uses to capture the depths of his being is a fluid mix that goes from performance and video art to sculpture, painting and photography. This artist what he does is cover his face and body with a mixture of plasticine and paint to later transform, disfigure and undo his own appearance.
Through his
pieces he seeks to find the most primitive of his being and reveal it in a raw
and natural way to provoke a sense of introspection in the viewer.
Olivier de
Sagazan uses his duality and "lack of origin" to give an imminent
transition to the body of his work. "In essence my work is a hymn to life,
an attempt to understand what it means to be alive," reveals the artist
who uses his own body as an essential element to express his anguish and
fascination with the weight of living.
People
describe their art as paintings and sculptures that manage to generate a great
visual impact, because they reflect a world of chaos and suffering, which leads
us to the most terrible of nightmares and in turn to the most incredible of the
scenarios.
Currently de
Sagazan resides in France, where he continues to produce his pieces that have
caused a great commotion in the world of art for his wit and personality.
